SIMPLE STACKING … EVER CHANGING…
URBAN OBJECTIVE : A new dynamic linking space for the city.
At an urban level, the project aims to become a new landmark on the area in two ways:
a/ like visual impact or architectural presence,
b/ new dynamic linking space for the city:
a wide array of everyday activities will take place: from living to commerce to leisure and even culture.
Strategies
The building is conceived as a porous urban space that stimulates Interaction between public and private activities. The line between private and public space is narrowed almost to a minimum.
1- direct relationship with the adjacent Broad Street train station:
the new multifamily housing adapts to the current scheme of the site and its direct
relationship with the adjacent Broad Street train station.
2- activity of the commercial gallery proposed at street level:
more energetic activity of the commercial gallery proposed at street level.
3-The projects nature is pedestrian-oriented:
The building allows open passages for all residents and visitors, to walk freely through the
ground level, were the commercial galleries with green rooftops are located.
BUILDING’S BODY
The building’s body consists of two main parts:
- Freely -shaped commercial galleries at the bottom with its green rooftops and walkways.
- The housing complex, which is composed out of simply stacked cargo containers.
At public scale: the building becomes the neighborhood, by attracting and embracing the diversity of uses and activities;
while at the housing scale: the multi-heighted central space crossed by corridors, stairs, escalators and lifts interrelate all level yielding neighbors interaction.
SYSTEM BUILDING : variation & standard components
System is composed out of simply stacked cargo containers, which however permit different combinations and variations of dwellings typologies.
3D-wagon and components arrive at site direct on railways from factory full equipped.
CRANE
A tri-articulated and mobile crane accommodates periodically components and 3D-wagons in place picking them directly from the railroad cargo: continually changing, Removing, Modifying the building’s scheme; The crane itself becomes part of the new symbol for the Broad Street Station and the neighborhood. |
