The project here proposed is an attempt to address some of the needs of this local community in Newark.  In my view, the best way to provide multi-family housing is at a 'low density' with an abundance of space, light, air, greenery and a touch of separation from commercial areas.  To take this a step further, I drew up plans with the notion of providing housing as artist's residences, possibly as part of a 'regional' program, with studio spaces in the cellars and exhibition space to be provided in the civic/ cultural building. This reasoning follows based on the local environment, services readily available and the 'timbre' of this 'evolving' urban area. The proximity of the site to local transportation could also draw others to the city for 'art' related events such as openings and exhibitions and is a nice feature of this area. I also thought to provide smaller commercial blocks to serve local commuters and residents alike. Open space would provide possibly a small park or commuter's meeting or waiting area.
