Design Statement

A SINUOUS ARCHITECTURAL ARRANGEMENT SETS THE STAGE FOR A TRANQUIL, PARK-LIKE RESIDENTIAL
EXPERIENCE WHILE ALSO ALLOWING FOR COMMERCIAL ENTITIES TO BE PLACED CLOSEST TO PUBLIC STREETS. THIS ARRANGEMENT ALSO HELPS SOFTEN THE POTENTIALLY INDUSTRIAL FEEL OF SHIPPING CONTAINTERS BY ENGAGING PEDESTRIANS IN A MORE ORGANIC MANNER. THIS STATEGY WOULD BENEFIT THE IMAGE OF NOT ONLY THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, BUT THE CITY OF NEWARK AS WELL. PARKING
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SITE ARE ADDRESSED THROUGH UNDERGROUND GARAGES TO ENSURE A MAXIMUM OF SITE AREA IS GIVEN UP TO PARK/COMMUNITY USE. COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS HAVE PROVISIONS FOR LOADING ZONES AND “DROP-OFF” AREAS TO ENSURE THEY REMAIN FUNCTIONAL.
THE RESIDENTIAL SHIPPING CONTAINERS ARE GIVEN A NEW ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY PANELIZED SKIN WHICH ALLOWS FOR A MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF USABLE SPACE WITHIN, WHILE ALSO UTILIZING THE MODERN INSULATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AVAILBLE TODAY. THE RESULT IS A CLEAN AND CONTEMPORARY MIXED-USE COMPLEX WHICH SEEKS TO CONTRIBUTE TO A PROGRESSIVE URBAN ARCHITECTURAL EXPERIENCE, WHILE ALSO MAKING STEPS TOWARDS THE RECYCLING OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE. THE INTENT IS TO EDUCATE BY EXAMPLE; PROPOSED HERE IS ONE WAY TO BOTH BRING ATTENTION TO A GROWING ENVIRONMENTAL AND INDUSTRIAL PROBLEM, AND ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THAT SAME ISSUE.
