An “archaeological” finding of a container storage site can represent one of the possible sceneries that future generations will be going to see.
As is, this site is brought to light, cleaned and reused to obtain a hypogeal settlement, protected by sinuous translucent coverings.
From an urban point of view, the determination of metropolitan sceneries in which temporary spatial solution are required, leads to the creation of places that tend to lose their character and identity.
For this reason, this settlement proposal, although maintaining typical characters of a container storage that reaches always changeable spatial configurations, aims to enrich urban landscape, restoring site's identity.
From a technical point of view, this subterranean configuration helps contrasting container steel's reduced thermal capacity, allowing energy saving during construction and life cycle, guaranteeing a better settlement's sustainability.
The concept plans a possibility of locating excavation areas that retrieve an “old” urban design.
Some emerging container units take us to the three levels below. In this proposal, 20” and 40” containers have been used and drawn close to each other in such a manner to obtain variegated spatial and functional configurations.
Containers now satisfy housing, commercial, service and free time needs. It's also been provided a wide, subterranean, parking area.
This flexible configuration is also provided by a rail system that allow transferring containers from railway/highway to the site and, at a subterranean level, by lift trucks that collect containers from the rails through the roofing. |
