concept statement

a gateway is the space that connects two spaces. So a gateway in the traditional sense is a space between spaces. thereby dependent upon the spaces it connects for its identity. however, in truth all three spaces (home, business, and the space that connects the two) are dependent upon each other. What must be done is precisely what the founders of Newark desired “to bring city closer to the people” by doing so and reducing the physical size of the ‘gateway’ or the time needed to cross it, the efficiency of the gateway is promoted. creating a space that is so well connected to the comforts of home and the excitement of the city that both are simultaneously accessible; a space with the experiences and opportunity of two different types of communities residential and metropolitan. this type of connectivity of the site to the broader metropolitan framework of both Newark and Manhattan would be provided by the integration of streamlined transportation infrastructure with the residential community. in doing so the site is able to suit many differing needs of the varieties families in today’s society.
