DEADLINE:

All submissions must be received via email by 5:00 pm EST Thursday, July 31, 2008.

ANONYMITY:

Submissions shall have no name or mark that in any way identify the project or competitor other than the last four digits registration number assigned to the competitor upon completion of registration.

The Jury will not receive any information regarding the authorship of entries submitted.

Competitors must not communicate with the jury about the competition or their entries in any way prior to the official announcement of winners. Any Competitor or juror found in violation of this rule will be disqualified immediately.

Jurors are required to excuse themselves from discussion or voting on a particular entry in the event that they can determine the Competitor(s) submitting all or part of any entry.

OWNERSHIP

Any and all materials and ideas submitted as part of a competition entry, including but not limited to drawings, renderings, photographs, photocopies, digital files, ideas and derivative works, shall become the sole and exclusive property of AIA Newark and Suburban. AIA Newark and Suburban shall own and have the sole and exclusive right to use, copy, distribute, translate, modify, display and prepare derivative works of entries, as well as the right to authorize such uses by others. AIA Newark and Suburban shall have the right to obtain and to hold in its own name, copyrights, registrations or other such protection as may be appropriate to the subject matter, and any extensions and renewals thereof.

To the extent that an entry is not selected as a winner, ownership of entries shall revert to the applicable submitting Competitor, except that all Competitors shall grant to AIA Newark and Suburban a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, exclusive license to use and/or reproduce the entry in any way, in any medium now known or hereafter devised, for any purpose, including but not limited to publication, exhibition, and archive of the Competition. AIA Newark and Suburban will make reasonable efforts to credit Competitors at all times.

By submitting an entry, Competitors certify that the materials and ideas submitted to the Competition are original and have not been previously published. Competitors additionally certify and that neither their entry, nor the use thereof, violates, infringes or otherwise conflicts with any copyright, trademark or property right of any third party.

Competitors acknowledge that AIA Newark and Suburban and its partners may exhibit all Competition entries in an online gallery, and a selection of Competition entries may be chosen for physical exhibition and/or public display following the announcement of the winners. AIA Newark and Suburban will make reasonable efforts to notify Competitors of any public exhibition or display entries through correspondence with the primary contact listed on the PayPal Registration Form.

PRESENTATION BOARDS:

Competitors shall submit two digital files for 40" x40" boards, labeled A and B, that illustrate their project. Board A will be on the left and Board B will be on the right when presented to the jury. Each board must include entrant's the last four digits of the RECEIPT ID number in the upper right hand corner in plain black text on a white background or white text on black background.

Entries become property of AIA Newark and Suburban and will not be returned.

REQUIRED DRAWINGS:

All submissions must include the following:

One plan of proposed design of the multi-family mixed-use dwelling

Two perspective views

Cross-Section showing utilization of material

Additional drawings and diagrams may be included to further illustrate proposals. Scale and placement of these drawings is at the discretion of each competitor.

REQUIRED TEXT:

A text statement of no more than 250 words describing the project concept and design intent must be incorporated onto one of the boards. Statements should explicitly address the relationship between the multi-family, mixed use project and the context.

FILE FORMAT/SIZE:

Files must be uploaded in the following formats:

Two 40" x 40" PDF files, 300 dpi, 10MB maximum size for each file
(primary files for printing boards)

Two 800 x 800 pixel JPEG files, 200 dpi, 1.5MB maximum size for each file
(files for online exhibition and publication)

One 100 x 100 pixel JPEG file, 200 dpi, 50K max size
(image DETAIL of your choice from either board for online thumbnail)

One Microsoft Word compatible (.doc) file, 50K maximum size
(project description in 250 words or less)

For PDF files, graphics should be set to 300 dpi/ppi. If printing to PDF from Illustrator, for example, choose Effect -> Document Raster Effects Settings -> Resolution -> Other: 300 ppi. Note that to meet the file size requirements you may have to adjust your PDF software compression settings.

FILE NAMING:

All files must be named with the LAST FOUR DIGITS OF YOUR RECEIPT ID NUMBER you received when you submitted your registration, followed by an underscore and A, B etc. For example, the files for registrant 0000 would be called:

Board A: 0000_A.pdf (large file), 0000_A.jpg (small file for web)

Board B: 0000_B.pdf (large file), 0000_B.jpg (small file for web)

Other Files: 0000_thumb.jpg, 0000.doc

Every file must include entrant's RECEIPT ID number.

FILE SUBMISSION:

All files must be emailed to info@livethebox.org. You may add files as necessary prior to the submission deadline, however all files must be received by the final deadline. Any files submitted after this deadline will be disqualified and deleted without being viewed. Submissions may not be delivered in person or by mail.

DISPUTES


Disputes or questions of interpretation arising out of the Competition Rules and Regulations or Registration will be considered by the AIA Newark and Suburban, which will render a final determination.

The jury, by a majority vote, possesses the sole authority and responsibility to recommend winners at the end of the Competition. Any disputes will be resolved by the Jury Chair in consultation with AIA Newark and Suburban.

By registering to enter the Competition, entrants affirm that they have read and accepted these Rules and Regulations.
